'[My son] screamed to stop the driver': Brave kid spots a helpless black kitten clinging to a forklift, jumps in front of the car, and saves the kitten moments before it would have been crushed beneath a pallet

How far would you go to try to save a kitten's life? 

It's easy for people to say that they would do anything for a cat in need. We love cats so much. Just the thought of them being in any kind of danger lights a maternal instinct in us that is so strong, we can barely contain it. Some things we would do. We would call the fire department if we saw a kitten stuck in a tree, and we would help in every way pawssible to help them get the kitten down. We would dig through the trash if we heard a kitten meowing in a trash can, because saving a life is more important than the few showers we would have to take. We would stop traffic and walk out of our car if we saw a kitten lying on the side of the road, knowing that a kitten like this wouldn't make it long, especially in the heat of the summer. But would we jump in front of an operating forklift because we saw a kitten hanging off it? 

That is what this boy did. His mom recalls the story on r/CatDistributionSystem, explaining that she and her son were walking around on a completely normal day when, suddenly, he spotted a tiny black kitten hanging off a pallet that was attached to a forklift. The forklift was in motion. A little longer, the pallet would have been brought down, and the kitten would have been squished under it. But the son's first instinct was an amazing one. He jumped in front of the moving forklift, screamed for the driver to stop the car, and in this way, he saved the kitten's life. Now, she is home, safe, in the hands of people who will take care of it until the end, and our hope for humanity is restored ever so slightly.

  • She is absolutely tiny! Sitting in a hat like this, you can really tell how small she is. We can imagine that just spotting her on the forklift would have been a challenge. It really is lucky that you and your son were there.

  • Waiting a few days is alright. As long as she seems fine and healthy, it's enough that we know that she's safe and at home. And by the looks of it, we're not worried. She's going to pass this inspection with flying colors.

    Once she's healthy enough and big enough, I definitely recommend introducing her to your one-year-old cat so she can learn how to "cat"- boundaries, especially around play, are super important for kittens!
